What is the Lake Michigan LaMP?
Answer
With the goal of
“restoring and maintaining the chemical,
physical and biological integrity of the waters of the Great Lakes Basin
Ecosystem,” the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement calls for the
development of Lakewide Action and Management Plans (LAMPs) for each Great Lake
to guide and assess activities that ensure environmental integrity while
supporting economically viable and healthy human communities. The primary
purpose of the Lake Michigan LAMP is
“to
restore and protect the integrity of the Lake Michigan ecosystem through
collaborative, place-based partnerships.”
The Lake Michigan Forum and Watershed Academy (LMFWA) provides public input to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on the Lake Michigan LAMP and is the medium for direct public involvement in
the LAMP process. The LMFWA is a critical link between government, academia, regional planners, industry, and
public stakeholders throughout Lake Michigan Basin and enables these entities
to share critical information and coordinate actions that restore and protect
the integrity of Lake Michigan.
