A basin is the area of land from which water drains into a lake. More specifically, the Lake Michigan Basin is the area of land where all rivers and streams drain into Lake Michigan. The Lake Michigan basin spans 28,509 square land miles and drains parts of four states Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.
